How can I make sexy massage oil?

Dear Oily,

This weekend, our kids were away so my husband thought he’d treat me to a sensual massage. Unfortunately, the massage oil he bought from the store was awful! It smelled terrible and I had a horrible reaction to it.. everywhere!

Can I use essential oils to make a sexy massage oil?

Sincerely,

Chemical Reaction

Yikes! It does not seem like you had a good weekend at all!

I can understand why your body had a reaction though. If you check out the back of the massage oil (if it even has a list of ingredients!), it may contain some gems like parabens and fragrance.

Fragrance can be a crazy concoction of thousands of different artificial/chemical/synthetic components. That doesn't sound sexy at all!

Fortunately, you can absolutely use quality essential oils (I would only ever use these) to make a natural, sexy, massage oil. You'll know exactly what's in it, and it’s really easy to whip up!

Sexy Massage Oil

What

  • 2 oz glass pump bottle (to make dispensing easier)
  • 2 oz liquid carrier oil
  • 4 drops cinnamon essential oil
  • 6 drops nutmeg essential oil
  • 4 drops ginger essential oil
  • 8 drops orange essential oil
  • 6 drops ylang ylang essential oil

How & Why

Mix all the ingredients together in the glass pump bottle. You can play with the amounts a bit depending on how sensitive your skin may be. I would definitely recommend a patch test.

The liquid carrier oil can be of your choice for this recipe. I use a mix of almond and jojoba. By itself, I find jojoba absorbs too quickly and limits that nice gliding action, but some people find almond too greasy.

Cinnamon and nutmeg are circulatory stimulants. They really help to get that blood flowing! And ginger’s fragrance (which I don’t find the most appealing) is stimulating and can endow some physical energy for any post-massage activities :) Apparently, women in Senegal traditionally use ginger root to “restore their mates’ sexual potency”. Re-ow!

These three oils combined are great for creating a nice warming sensation on the skin.

Orange is uplifting, can help encourage relaxation, and it combines nicely with the cinnamon and ginger. Oh yeah, it’s also a circulatory stimulant too.

And the ylang ylang is great for getting in the right mood.

All Oiled Up

Now that you have your massage oil, send those kids packing and tell your husband you demand a redo! A little goes a long way with this recipe too, so why stop at one massage?

Depending on how strong you find this combination to be, it can also be used as a lubrication. A caution though: oils do not pair well with latex condoms and can result in the production of more children.
